High Spirits Harmony has had a highly successful outing in its first national barbershop harmony competition – and also a history-making moment.

Competing in Hobart in the national Barbershop Harmony Australia chorus contest, held in November 2022, HSH was the first female chorus in the history of the event to take to the stage.

The 2022 Barbershop Harmony Festival – the first since before Covid-19 – was the first time that all-female choruses were able to take part, joining the established categories of all-male and mixed choruses.

HSH finished the competition with several big achievements, including a personal best score of 75.7%.

The chorus was also second in the inaugural women’s chorus contest, fourth in the medium-sized chorus division and eighth in the open division, in a highly competitive field from around Australia.

Twenty choruses and 40 quartets from around Australia took part in the four-day program of events at Hobart’s Federation Concert Hall and historic Theatre Royal from November 2 to 6.
