Multi-award-winning Adelaide women’s a cappella chorus High Spirits Harmony are now national champions.

The 26-member group won the gold medal in the Barbershop Harmony Australia women’s chorus competition at the 2023 Pan Pacific International Convention.

High Spirits Harmony, led by Music Director John Khammash, travelled to Auckland, New Zealand, for the convention from September 14 to 17.

The event incorporated three competitions – the Barbershop Harmony Australia national competition, the Barbershop Harmony New Zealand national competition, and the Pan Pacific competition.

The convention attracted 30 choruses and 55 quartets from around Australia and New Zealand, and from as far away as Japan and Hawaii.

As well as winning the BHA women’s chorus competition, High Spirits Harmony placed fourth in the Pan Pacific women’s chorus competition.
And to top off a very successful convention, HSH-based quartet The Zimmer-mamas won the BHA senior women’s quartet competition.

High Spirits Harmony was formed in February 2014, and sings in a cappella harmony exploring a range of musical styles, with an emphasis on enjoying music while aiming for excellence in performance.

The 2023 Pan Pacific Convention was HSH’s first international competition.
